Parent/Carer Participation

We strongly encourage family participation at Mortlake College. We consider ourselves ‘the family centred school’.  Strong partnerships between our school and families create the best environment for a child to learn in.

The aim of our Parent/Carer Participation Program is:

  • To encourage our families to help shape how our participation program is run and its future directions
  • To offer small workshops for helpers to develop more specialised skills
  • To create a positive, rich learning environment built on mutual respect and openness by our staff and families
  • We encourage our helpers to assist in an area that is of interest to them. These have included:

Classroom Helpers – listening to students read, changing readers, working with small groups during literacy and numeracy sessions, laminating, book covering, setting up displays

Parent Association – we have a very active and friendly group that organise a massive array of activities for the students and school fundraising initiatives throughout the year, including Fun Food Days, Welcome Morning Tea for Parents/Guardians of new Foundation students, Family BBQ & Sports Carnivals, Colour Fun Run, Mother's and Father's Day Stalls, School Discos, Bingo/Trivia Nights, Fetes, assisting with Graduation and more!

Gardening, Maintenance & Working Bees

Occasional Jobs – school concert, incursions & excursions.

Participation times vary, from a few times a week to once or twice a year.  Remember any time you are able to offer will be beneficial to not only your own child, but all the children within our school and our community!

All Helpers are required to have a current Working with Children Check. Forms can be obtained from Mortlake Post Office or you can apply online:  https://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/

Volunteers do not need to pay an application fee.

Please contact the office or your child's Teacher if you are interested in becoming a volunteer in any capacity at our school.
