Staff Leadership

top

We are indeed fortunate to have an excellent team to lead the College. Our staff has a great mix of youth and enthusiasm with stability and experience.

Our Assistant Principal Mr Gleeson has the responsibility of P-6  Management and Facilities

Our Leadership team includes:

  • Mr Bell VCE Coordination

  • Mrs Povey Curriculum P-8

  • Mr Drew Curriculum 5-12

The structure includes Year Level coordinators who along with the class teachers take the primary responsibility for Welfare and Discipline. The leadership team and coordinators work closely together on other issues such as enrolment and course selection. They are supported in this by the Careers Counsellor, Welfare Officer and Special Assistance Coordinator.

While the school is divided into Primary and Secondary classes every effort is made to blur the boundary and make transition as seamless as possible.

School Council

top

The College Council has the responsibility of setting policies on all school matters, within State guidelines. They also appoint ancillary staff, administer finances and manage the school grounds and facilities.

School Council consists of up to fifteen members:

  • the Principal

  • 6 elected parents (non DEET employees)

  • 4 elected staff

All are elected for a two year term, with half the positions falling vacant each year. Up to 4 members may be co-opted for a period of up to two years, for their expertise in certain areas. Currently 2 of these positions are allocated to the Parents' Association and Student Representatives.

Sub-committees form a major role in the successful operation of the Council, as they meet regularly and put forward recommendations that are discussed and acted on at a full Council meeting. The committees currently are Curriculum, Facilities, Welfare, Resources and Uniform and working parties formed to deal with specific areas or problems. Any parent is most welcome to be on any of these sub-committees.

All members are most approachable and welcome any suggestions from the wider school community.

Parents' Association

top

The Parents' Association of Mortlake College aims to fulfil several functions for the school community. We believe it is important to keep our parent body well informed of happenings within the school. By having a teacher or relevant community person as guest speaker at our meetings, we believe, provides parents with the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of particular curriculum or welfare programs operating within our school.

Various fundraising events are held throughout the year to raise funds in order to purchase curriculum or environmental needs for our students. Through the efforts of our parent body, sporting equipment, science equipment, air conditioners, books, games and many other items have been provided.

One of the main sources of funds is our school canteen. Along with a canteen manager, the Parents' Association maintain a canteen facility 5 days a week. Parents are asked to work at the canteen 1 day per term. Many parents are rostered on with a friend and find this an easy, enjoyable way to help out.

Parents' Association provides parents with an avenue for raising any concerns or queries they may have regarding their children's education. The guest speaker may be able to answer any queries, or our principal, who also attends our meetings.

A supply of new school uniform is available through the uniform shop run by the Parents' Association.

Meetings are advertised through the school newsletter. Please come and join us.
